Buns Up Baby Cloth Diaper Review and Giveaway (CLOSED)

Posted on | October 19, 2011 | 146 Comments

AsSalaamAlaiKum and Welcome to my first cloth diaper giveaway!

Buns Up Baby diapers is a new business run by a mommy, Amber who is based in Ontario-Canada. Her search for budget friendly diapers that really worked led her to start her own business that wholesales custom designed cloth diapers, and cloth diaper accessories

The diapers are manufactured in the China and they cost varies between 8-10 $ per diaper depending on the which type of diaper you choose to buy, which is quite economical.

Diaper:
I was sent an adorable ‘pretty in pink’ girl print one-size pocket minky diaper to review. It is made of soft minkee exterior, and lined with a waterproof PUL, to prevent leaking. The lining is a suede-cloth lining that doesn’t pill. Suede is known for wicking moisture away from the skin just like the fleece found in many other pocket diapers. The suede fabric is a little thinner than fleece. They have snap closures (my favorite), including 4 hip snaps, overlapping waist snaps and 3 rows of rise snaps. Snaps are hard for curious toddlers to undo and they also don’t collect lint or get all tangled up in the wash like hook and loop diapers do. These diapers are one size which means, they grow with your baby and will fit from 8 pounds all the way up to 35 pounds so you only have to buy ONE set of diapers. My 2 month old weighs 9 pounds and I found that the diaper was a bit bulky on her. The diaper has a large elastic pocket in the back that easily stretches into which the insert goes.

Insert:
Each diaper has an insert made of three layers of microterry and is 33cm x 13.5cm. This makes it absorbent enough to be functional but not so absorbent that the diaper would take forever to dry.

BUY IT:
You can buy minky and silky cloth diapers and other accessories they offer online at Buns Up Baby.

WIN IT:
Amber has graciously offered one lucky reader of my blog their very own diaper and insert from Buns Up Baby!

My cloth diapering routine has mostly finished because my son is potty training but it will start again in the next month or so with DS#2. My hubby prefers the disposables for some reason (he doesn’t do the wash so I don’t understand why it makes much of a difference) so I make sure that I have a pile of prestuffed pockets or AIOs at the change table so that they are easier for him to use. Other than that, presoak, wash well and put on an extra rinse. We have really hard water so I probably do a load with RLR about once a month.

We currently use (and love!) Fuzzibunz pocket diapers as well as GroVia hybrid diapers. I now wash with Charlie’s Soap, but I have also used Tide and Arm and Hammer detergent with no problems. I use bamboo inserts (Huggabuns are my favorite insert), dry the inserts in dryer but line dry the shells.

Usually we use bamboo or hemp inserts with applecheeks covers during the day. At night we use gdiapers or the sustainable babyish etc with wool covers.

I wash the first cycle with cold and a bit of detergent (usually liquid, biodegradable stuff like nature clean or soapnuts)Second cycle is hot with an extra rinse, no added detergent. Dry the cloth inserts on med-low, hang the pants to dry on rack. Used to hang outside until we had a wind storm this summer and my line got knocked down.

I wash about every other day sometimes two if I can get away with it. :) I do a cold short wash without detergent. Then a long hot wash with Rockin Green with an extra cold rinse. I line dry everytime. So far I LOVE IT! I feel good everytime I fold those diapers that I’m saving $$$ and not putting more in landfills. Plus, the HUBS LOVES IT TOO! YAY!

My cloth diaper routine is brand new as I am just starting out using cloth diapers. I’m doing a trial of several different types right now to figure out what kind works best for my little ones. (I have 2) So far, I know I prefer snaps over hook and loop closures (though I do find the velcro easier to get on to my wiggly little guys!), and I love the Babykicks organic fitted with a cover for overnight.

I use a variety of diapers-flats, prefolds, fitteds, covers (including wool and fleece), pockets, AIOs, bug LOVE finding new diapers. I prefer prefolds and wool, but my husband prefer disposables (except for the cost). So, I’ve been building our diaper stash to include pocket and AIO diapers. On wash day, I rinse in cold water, hot wash, and double rinse in cold water. I hang the diapers to dry. I stuff the pockets after they are dry.

I would love to have the silky going bananas diaper from buns up baby.
My cloth diaper routine is cloth diapering full-time other than when we are out of town…then I use disposables. I use a combination of pockets and all-in-ones, some sized, but mostly one-size. I have a 2 year old and a newborn (and a potty-trained, previously cloth-diapered 4 year old), and I do laundry every other day. I wash the diapers with a hot rinse, then hot wash/cold rinse and usually an extra rinse cycle.

My routine for CDs consists of using a dry bag system and washing the dirties every other day. I do a soak in cold water first in the machine, then turn it to Whitest Whites cycle with an extra rinse. I add extra water to the machine with a jug. Dry in the dryer w/ 4 wool dryer balls!

I’m just now trying cloth diapers for the first time, with my third and last baby who is almost 9 months old. I have no routine yet, but I’m hoping to soon :) I’ve got my first cloth diapers coming in the mail.

I just started doing cloth diapers yesterday! I was waiting till my little guy got a little bigger to start!!! So far so good!! I don’t really have a routine down yet…do have everything ready to go…including wet bags, laundry detergent, and storage of the diapers. So far I have been using the Flip Diapers, and they work great!!! Going to set up my diaper sprayer today too!! I will let you know when I have the routine down!

My routine – we cloth diaper full time. I use a variety of diapers: pockets, AI2, flats, prefolds during the day, fitteds at night. We wash in Clean B – front loader, pre rinse in cold, hot water wash, cold rinse, extra rinse, water plus setting.

We are still trying to figure out what works best for our family… we’re trying many diffrent brands and styles of cloth diapers so far I know we prefer snaps and I am really liking using prefolds and using pocket dipes as though they were a cover :)

I just started cloth diapering thanks to Buns Up Baby. I love them! It’s much easier than I thought and because the diapers are so easy to use and clean, it has made the transition from disposables to cloth so, so easy. My routine is to soak them in water and Amaze for the first few diapers and then once I have enough to justify a wash, I wash in hot water with Tide and rinse in cold water. Line dry or tumble on low. They wash up really well. My plan is to switch to Rockin Green laundry soap soon so I clear my conscience about the detergent I use.

We didn’t cloth diaper our first one until about 2 months before he potty trained so we never really established a real routine. I am pregnant with #2 and due in 3 weeks and am getting my stash established right now, so I still don’t have a routine. But at this point I plan to wash every 2 days and line dry. I have a drying rack for inside during the cold weather and we have a line outside for during the warm weather. I will tumble dry any inserts and to fluff up the diapers after we have line dried them. I have an HE machine, so I am sure it will take some trial and error. I plan to use Rockin’ Green laundry soap, but am willing to try other brands as well if need be.
